1. Lunch at Padma De Fleur.

With a plethora of choices, deals and attractive offers from the hotels and upscale restaurants in town it’s hard to pinpoint the ideal spot to take that special someone for a great Valentine’s day in Saigon. Well, we think you should start off with lunch at Padma De Fleur, an innovative little shop that sells flowers and phenomenal lunches. Padma is run by a dynamic team who make great food and sell flower bouquets, as well as bouquet-making workshops, all out of the same address.

As you walk into the floral entrance, you’ll find yourself surrounded by romantic sets of flowers, wrapped together and in beautiful vases. If your partner isn’t impressed by this point ditch her/him and join your single friends at the nearest bar and get sloshed. Their menu is predominantly Vietnamese, with some A La Carte Dishes, but we recommend their fantastic set lunch for a nice affordable 150K. This usually includes: Soup + Rice + stir-fried veggies and a fish/chicken dish, as pictured above. ( If you’re a roaming herbivore call them for their vegetarian alternatives)

9 our of 10 people love chocolate. The 10th is a bold-faced liar.

If you don’t agree that chocolate is the ultimate symbol of love then you are a fool. We’ll gladly bare-knuckle fight anyone who disagrees ( leave time and place in comment box below ).

It’s almost too convenient to be true, but Saigon’s best Chocolate shop is located a stone-throw away from Padma De Fleur. After romantically wiping those last rice crumbs off your significant other’s face at Padma’s, pay the bill and head out the door. Take a left, then a right, then another left and you’ll find yourself at the aroma-filled Maison Marou. Marou was named by the New York Time as the “best chocolate you’ve never tasted”. Here is what we think: They have the best hot chocolate that we have ever had. The second best item we have ever had is the brownies. Get both and lose yourself in romance enhancing qualities of everything chocolate. Go ahead and pour burning hot chocolate sauce one each other’s bodies and slowly lick it off for all we care, it’s your day!

3. Happy Hour and sunset drinks at Social Club.

If everything is going well wind down your romantic day at one of Saigon’s nicest rooftop bars. If it’s not, feign an emergency, head to the nearest, dirtiest disco, take some shots of tequila and dry hump a strangers leg on the dark, mucky dance-floor, full of other hopeless romantics.

Perched above the very elegant Des arts hotel, Social Club offers spectacular views of the city, especially right at sundown. Thinking of getting down on your knee and proposing? This is surely the spot to do it if you’re one of those unimaginative, yet slightly classy dudes. In front of the infinity pool? Or on the glass bridge crossing over to the next door rooftop bar? Wherever you choose, you will get a round of applause and “awes’ and “oohs” from the inebriates at the table next door. As we said, get their for the happy hour, otherwise you’ll be paying European prices for your drinks, and no one wants that. Happy Hour is everyday from 5-8pm, 50% off all drinks.
